Your first upload

Use this guide when you want the shortest path from account setup to a successful upload.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:
If you do not have a file ready yet, download a sample file and use that to test your first import.
You must have Payroll Administrator access in Xero to create the connection.

Choose your starting point

Use Import Files if you are uploading a CSV, Excel file or Google Sheet. Use Integrations if you are importing data directly from a supported app.

Connect UpSheets to Xero

Prepare the file

Make sure your file matches the type of data you want to upload.Start with a sample file, then review the transaction types and the relevant file format guide for your country and data type.

Import the file

Select Import Files from the menu, choose your file, select import options, then click Import.See File Types.

Validate and upload

After the import finishes, both paths follow the same steps.

Validate the data

Match the required columns or fields to your data, then click Validate.

Review validation

Check the validation results. If there are errors, you can edit the data or create mappings to correct any issues.

Upload to Xero

Click Upload to send the validated data to Xero.

Fix validation problems

The most common fixes are:
  • Check the file format matches the transaction type you selected.
  • Check employee names or identifiers so they can be matched correctly.
  • Check pay items, earnings rates or tracking codes exist and are mapped correctly.
  • Check dates and time values use a supported format.
