When to use this

Use the Start Period Only modifier when the whole shift should use a rate because the shift starts in a particular period. For example, some awards apply an early-start rate to the full shift if the shift starts before 08:00.

Before You Start

Open or create the Smart Formula from Smart Formulas > Configure. Start period modifiers can be used on ordinary time and daily overtime rules. They are not used on allowance, weekly overtime, or break removal rules.

Worked Example

If an employee works Monday from 07:00 to 19:00: The whole shift uses the early-start rule because the shift started inside the early period. If an employee works Monday from 09:00 to 17:00:

Test the Example

Before publishing:
  1. Open Smart Formulas > Simulate.
  2. Add a shift that starts before the configured time.
  3. Add a shift that starts after the configured time.
  4. Click Run Simulation.
  5. Confirm only the early-start shift uses the start-period-only rate.
